Open wide—it’s time for your daily treat of butylated hydroxytoulene, calcium casein peptone, titanium dioxide, synthetic elastomers, and polyvinyl acetate.Wait… that doesn’t sound appetizing at all, does it? Unfortunately, these are just some of the harmful (potentially toxic) ingredients in most popular chewing gum brands. So, if you chew a lot of gum, it’s likely that you’ve ingested more than one of these nasty-sounding additives. (Although chewing gum isn’t normally swallowed, the ingredients are still absorbed into your body.)
The folks behind Glee Gum set out on a mission to “change what you chew.” They found a way to go back to the past, to when gum was always made with chicle, a natural tree sap harvested sustainably from the rainforests of Central America. Then they added other all-natural ingredients—pure flavors like peppermint and spearmint, and sweeteners like cane sugar and brown rice syrup. For their sugar-free varieties, they chose xylitol, which comesfrom American birch and beech trees and offers added dental benefits, like helping reduce bacteria (and therefore reducing decay). Glee Gum is also kosher, vegetarian, gluten-free, and Non-GMO Project verified.
Then they went a step further, packaging their better-for-you gum in either biodegradable, recycled cardboard or resealable, recyclable pouches. So not only can you feel good about the gum you’re chewing, you’re also treading a little lighter on the planet.
If you enjoyed the Refresh-Mint gum that was included in your fall Yuzen box, we know you’ll love the other Glee Gum flavors, too, like tangerine, cinnamon, triple berry, and wild watermelon. Glee Gum also offers make-your-own kits that allow you to cook up your own original gum, gummies, and chocolate recipes at home. Check it all out at www.GleeGum.com.
